About the Role

Our molds are the heart of our production, and keeping them running is a hands-on job. The Mold and Tool Machinist is a mold maker who diagnoses, repairs, and improves our injection molds. You will spend most of your day at the bench and the machines.

Pay: $30–$40 per hour

What We Offer

Competitive pay, health benefits, 401(k) plan, and paid time off, subject to plan eligibility requirements. Opportunity to grow into a Lead Mold Maker or Tool Room Manager.

Cambridge Security Seals is an equal opportunity employer.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose mold problems (wear, flash, damaged cores and cavities, ejection, cooling and venting) and carry out repairs, escalating complex issues
  • Repair and modify multi-cavity injection molds through machining, grinding and polishing, and coordinating outside welding when necessary
  • Sustain a preventive maintenance program for every mold, with a repair history for each tool
  • Act on work orders from the Manufacturing and Engineering teams, confirm the root cause, and support mold qualification after repairs
  • Manage spare components and steel so critical molds are never down for lack of a part
  • Support outside mold shops on new molds and major rebuilds: inspect on delivery and assist with first trials
  • Keep the tool room safe, organized and clean

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • 3+ years as a mold machinist or toolmaker on plastic injection molds (5+ preferred); journeyman card or completed apprenticeship preferred
  • Hands-on skill on manual and CNC mills, lathes, and surface grinders
  • Ability to read and work from mold drawings with GD&T, and to measure precisely
  • Enough understanding of molding on the press to tell a mold problem from a process problem

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with multi-cavity, tight-tolerance molds and hot runner systems
    • Working knowledge of SolidWorks or a similar CAD system
    • CNC programming (CAM)
    • Experience in a small shop handling everything from repairs to vendor management
    • Work Environment

Tool room and production floor, with safety glasses, hearing protection and machine-shop safety practices required. Occasional off-shift support when a critical mold goes down.
