The Engineer Senior Controls, designs and develops major engineering projects with minimal management guidance or intervention. The Senior Engineer will assume all management duties in the absence of the Engineering manager. The Senior will also provide work direction and guidance to less experienced team members.



  1. Electrical Design: Responsible for creating electrical schematics, plc program logic, and electrical enclosure designs within the constraints determined by the given project, time, cost, performance.
  2. Project Supervision: Oversees the completion of an electrical design for a project with general supervision. These responsibilities include the following:
    1. Estimating engineering hours required for a project.
    2. Electrical enclosure design and detail.
    3. Electrical schematic design.
    4. Hands-on PLC and HMI programming.
    5. Hands-on Robotic programming desirable.
    6. Knowledge of vision systems is desirable.
    7. Project documentation, including bill of materials.
    8. Project checking.
    9. Manufacturing assembly support.
  3. Checking / Verification: Responsible for inspecting and approving all teamwork that is completed for a given project, also responsible for ensuring that any of his or her own work is inspected and approved by the engineering manager.
  4. Documentation: Responsible for the proper documentation of his or her work, including ECR’s, machine manuals, check lists, and others.
  5. Scheduling & Reports: Responsible for reporting the status of his or her project in accordance with Epicor Projects (MPI’s information system) and the engineering production schedule at each weekly meeting. If a problem occurs that requires immediate attention, it is the engineer’s responsibility to report to the department manager at that time.
  6. Other duties as assigned by management.


Skills and Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each principal duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, experience, skill, and ability required:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent, plus 6 to 10 years of related experience.
  2. Experience as an engineer working with capital equipment using electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical engineering practices, PLC experience (if possible);
  3. Sound understanding of electrical design, schematics, and electrical codes regarding machine tool design.
  4. Sound computer skills, Cad for Schematics is desirable.
  5. Experience with machine tool equipment, electrical design.
  6. Vast knowledge of PLC programming. Omron, AB, and Siemens are desirable.
  7. Vast knowledge of HMI programming. Indusoft is desirable.
  8. Vast knowledge of Robotic’s programming. ABB and Fanuc are desirable.
  9. Proficient using Microsoft Office, Solidworks, and MPI information system “Epicor”
  10. Flexible, able to react to change.
  11. Advanced communication skills, able to work with others and lead others
  12. Good organizational skills, able to plan a project from beginning to end
  13. Good judgment skills, able to consider how decisions affect overall company.
